About

Zoa Fund is a grantmaking fund focused on animal welfare and animal rights. The majority of our funding is based in the United States, and we work on a small set of issues where political and policy change can land concrete wins.

We are a subdivision of Phauna Foundation.

Mission

To build durable local political power for animals — by funding and strengthening grassroots political groups, supporting strategic policy and ballot campaigns, and investing in cultural and media efforts that advance public understanding and moral consideration for animals.

Vision

A world where animals are not harmed for human purposes, and where humans and animals coexist without exploitation. We are grounded in reality and believe change comes from coordinated, well-designed efforts. Our role is to fund and shape policy-focused projects that solve concrete problems and build toward larger movement-wide wins.

What we fund

Three forms of work.

Public policy

Local and statewide campaigns, ballot initiatives, and the legal and political infrastructure that makes durable wins possible.

Capacity building

Strengthening the organizations and coalitions doing the work — staffing, infrastructure, training, and shared strategy.

Media and culture

Storytelling, journalism, and cultural projects that shift how the public — and policymakers — think about animals.

How we fund

By invitation only.

We don't accept open applications. If your work fits one of our issues, write us at grants@zoafund.org.

We'll be at the Animal & Vegan Advocacy Summit (AVA). If you're attending, find us there.
